Through Restore Education, I was able to get my GED, and as happy as I was with that, it wasn't all! They helped me get college credits through courses I attended for free. I never thought I could make it to college, yet there I was in college classrooms receiving an education and participating in interesting and stimulating courses.
Restore Education helped me every step of the way, from signing up for classes to applying for student aid; I could not have done it without their help. Now, I am attending San Antonio College as a full-time student (I have 32 hours now, and I will have 45 credit hours by the end of this semester) and I am well on my way to getting my Associate’s degree in Nursing by next year. It will not be my last though. I intend on pursuing my Bachelor’s degree. Restore Education made it all possible. I am thankful for their selflessness and constant guidance. I always recommend my friends to Restore Education.”
The program's environment was very relaxing and self-fulfilling. At Passport to College, I was pointed in the right direction and given the basic skills needed to go to college. I started in September of 2008 and progressively moved into a college environment where I began to take care of my own responsibilities, and began my future at my own pace.
Passport helped me with my work schedule and financial aid to pay for my school. I earned a 4.0 GPA in my first semester! I loved how I could finish my GED while taking college classes. Now, I am majoring in engineering, and working hard to someday, become a successful engineer. Since 2008, I have accumulated over 45 college credit hours while working full time. I am now the student answering questions from new students attending SAC, and giving speeches to them about my experience at Passport.“
As soon as I went in to fill out an application, I felt at home with the staff; they were so kind to me. I also like the one-on-one tutoring and the flexible hours and just how, everyday, when I would go in, it felt like home. I’ve made a lot of new friends whom I would have never met if I hadn’t applied to this program. I am now in my second semester of college!”
Now, almost two years later, I am in my last semester before getting my Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. The staff still helps me through their sound advice and constant encouragement.
I would recommend this program to anyone who is willing to learn and achieve great success.”
Restore Education is a wonderful program that has great structure, and gives equality to all. But most of all, the heart and dedication that is put in by the ones who run this program is what keeps it going strong and puts that fire into the students hearts to make them have the will to succeed in the future and achieve all goals. I can honestly say I have been doing great in all of my college courses and there’s no turning back thanks to Restore!”
Passport to College made sure I was ready for my college courses and made sure I understood the consequences of not attending class. I am now halfway done with my requirements for my Associate’s! I still stay in touch with the program for academic advising and some tutoring. At times, I admit, I lost motivation, but, because this program is attentive to their students, they always knew when this was happening. With a sincere concern for my educational well being, they always knew how to get me back on track. Because of such an honest and sincere hope for my future, I am proud to say that I have completed the program successfully and have truly found a new hope thanks to Passport to College.”
I tested to see where I stood, and got a call from them the same day, eager to have me come in and start. At first, I absolutely hated being around them, because they were so insanely kind to me. After all, growing up in state care, it was something I was not used to. So after about a month or so of their extremely kind harassment, they got me to come in and commit to a study schedule. It got to the point where they were rubbing off on me. Their encouragement and persistence in getting me to pass never ceased, which showed me someone in this world actually cared about me.
I walked the stage on December 8th, 2010, completely sober which is something I never in my wildest dreams thought would happen. I earned my GED and 6 college credits, and am now a full-time student at San Antonio College. They are the Mother Theresa of dropout programs, because a student’s success, their students are more than a name on a paper. My success was just a byproduct of their support and desire to see the worst of us become successful and confident individuals. To say that Restore Education changed my life would be an understatement!”
Finally, fed up with where my life was headed, I knew I needed a career already. It was time to grow up and stop procrastinating. Now, as a 21-year-old single mother, I decided to go and register to get my GED through classes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Sadly, those classes did not work out and again, I was disappointed in myself and with my life. While on the bus and looking for work, I spoke with the driver who told me about a GED class at SAC. That next morning, I went straight to SAC and was directed to the welcome desk where this wonderful woman gave me the number to Restore Education. I came in, filled out my application, and stayed all day to work with a tutor.
In less than a month, I passed three of my Accuplacers and enrolled in a college course. Now I can say I am happy with my life and the direction it is going. After next month, I will have seven hours of college credit and my GED and continue at SAC for my CDA certificate and then my Associate's degree. I am so proud of myself, but I could not have done it without the help of Restore Education.
They helped me love to learn and they continue to help me succeed in my other college courses. When I thought I could not do anything with my life, they told me I could. Now I know if I continue to push and stay strong, I will continue to conquer!”
